Alaska, here we come!

It was another hot and very humid day here in Southwest Louisiana!  We are officially in a drought as we haven’t had a “real” rain shower here in WEEKS.  It sprinkled last week, but just enough to wet the surface of the ground.

Tonight was our weekly GoRun After Dark get together!  We ran 4 miles!  Instead of eating with everyone else after the run, Jason and I went to O’Charleys on our own.

We were both VERY good…we asked for no bread, and I ordered the tilapia and asparagus.

I felt great after I finished eating, I was very proud of myself (and the food was awesome)….then our waiter gave us a surprise!

Ooey Gooey Caramel Pie (since we waited a long time for our food).

Oh my gosh. This thing was incredible. I only had 3 bites. Don’t get me wrong, those three bites were amazing, but I felt very “ugh” afterwards!  Still totally worth it in my opinion! :0)

In other news, I’m super excited about our upcoming family vacation!  We are taking a Norwegian Alaskan cruise out of Seattle!!

PEARL_Alaska3_web

For an entire week, the Norwegian Pearl will be our home!  It’s my first non-Disney cruise…and I’m really nervous about that, but I know it will be fine!  We decided not to cruise with Disney this time for a few reasons.  Their itineraries are funky – they sail out of Canada on a TUESDAY…who does that?!  A Tuesday-Tuesday itinerary doesn’t work with my husband’s vacation schedule.  Also, the price to fly from Houston to Canada is DOUBLE the price per ticket to fly from Houston to Seattle.  Crazy.

The most exciting news about the whole trip (for me) happens before the cruise even begins!  We made plans to fly up to Seattle the day before the cruise to explore Seattle and see all that it has to offer!  We booked a hotel room in downtown Seattle, and only days later, I discovered that Les Miserable is going to be at the 5th Avenue Theatre the weekend we are in Seattle!  HELLO!  Tickets, please?!

The tickets went on sale June 1st and you better believe it….I was at the computer at 5 a.m. buying our tickets!  SO SO SO excited!  Also, I found out that our hotel room is totally in walking distance of the theatre!  SCORE!!!! :0)

Has anyone ever used the rail system? I’m kinda scared…. lol

Once on board the boat, we’ll make stops at the following ports of call:

In Juneau, we are taking the Mendenhall Glacier tour!  Seems pretty neat!

Absolutely beautiful!  I can’t wait!!!

The only excursion my dad requested was the White Pass Scenic Railway in Skagway!

It seems like an incredible excursion with awesome opportunities to see the “wilderness” of Alaska!

In Ketchikan, we are taking a Cultural Discovery tour that has something to do with Eagles. Don’t really remember – this one was my mom’s pick!  HAH!

Last but not least, in Victoria, my parents and Jason and I are going to split up. Jason and I are going to visit the Craigdaroach Castle….I’m SO SO SO excited about this!  I’ve always wanted to see a real castle!! Yippee!  My parent’s are going to head over to Butchart Gardens for the evening light/fireworks display.

I know this trip will be here before I know it!  I’m so excited I can’t wait!!!

Have you ever been on an Alaskan cruise? Any tips/advice/must-do’s/pointers t0 share?! :0)

  4. YAY!!!! I love cruises!!! I haven't been on a big Alaskan one like what you are doing, but I went to Anchorage about 5 years ago and just took a day cruise while I was there and it was the best thing ever!!! We saw so much wildlife it was unbelievable!! I want to go back and take a big cruise like that in the next few years!

Make sure you have plenty space on your camera card bc you will be taking a ton of pics!! You will have a great time! I can't wait to read about your trip!!

  5. I'm envious. I'd love to visit Alaska.

And we haven't had much rain ALL YEAR here in NM. So far less than a quarter inch since Jan 1st. We don't get a lot, but that is much less than usual. :-(

  6. We loved Seattle & Alaska (separate trips)!!! Did a Royal Caribbean cruise out of Vancouver about 5 years ago - amazing!!! We did a river float trip out of Skagway, and a kayaking trip out of Ketchikan. I did a mountain bike ride out of Juneau, and we all hiked out to Mendenhall glacier - SO cool!!! Unfortunately, we went at the end of May, so we were too early for salmon spawning and thus missed seeing alot of bears (just a few from the boat). You are going to love it! The best part is that you can do all kinds of active stuff outside in the middle of summer and barely break a sweat (big change for us southerners).

  8. We have been on several cruises throughout the Caribbean, but never to Alaska. I do know several people, however, that have been to Alaska and they all say it is breathtakingly beautiful. Have fun!!
