I’m interrupting my Alaska recap for a post on running in a Tropical Storm! :0)
Tropical Storm Lee, that is!
My friends and I had 16 miles on our schedule for Saturday. I was worried about the run because until Saturday, I hadn’t run in a week – mainly because I got sick on our cruise. Yes, I got sick. As much as I tried to prevent it – I even brought my supplements along this time but no such luck. I started getting sick before our vacation started and I begged my Dr. for antibiotics. He gave some to me and I finished them the Monday of our cruise. Well, between climate changes, the rain/cold, running outside in the cold/rain, I think it did me in! On Saturday of our cruise – yes, my birthday – it hit me full force. Thankfully, that was towards the end of our cruise so I was able to enjoy most of the cruise disease free!
I ran every day of our vacation up until that Friday. We returned home, I rested up, slept a lot, went back to work, and still remained sick. Finally towards the end of the week, I started feeling better – Saturday came along and so did a long run! On top of that, we also had a Tropical Storm come through! I knew that it wouldn’t be a good idea to run in the rain since I was still trying to get over being sick. Of course, I didn’t listen to the logical side of my brain, and I met my friends for a run anyway!
Now, when I say that we had a Tropical Storm come through, I don’t mean like a full blown Tropical Storm. We were only affected by the outskirts and the outer bands of Tropical Storm Lee. We didn’t have near as much rain as the New Orleans/Baton Rouge side of the state did. Even so, people here were going crazy purchasing canned goods and non-perishable items. Guess they were having Hurricane Rita flashbacks. I do NOT want that to happen again...
More people than I expected showed up to run on Saturday! It was REALLY windy and gusty and very rainy. The rain was blowing one way at one point, then the opposite way a few seconds later. It was crazy! We were soaked. After about 10 miles, the logical side of my brain kicked in again and told me I needed to quit after 12 miles. This time, I listened. I definitely didn’t want to get sick again.
12 miles done – now soaking wet!!
I also had a great idea! I knew that I was going to be soaked after our run, so I decided to bring along a bag of dry clothing to change into! Genius idea, Karen! We finished our run, took our picture, then I ran to the bathroom to change. The rain had slowed to a light drizzle so I figured I would be ok!
Nope.
By the time I dried off as best as possible and changed, the rain was coming down in buckets. It was POURING!
I ran to my car as fast as I could but I still got wet – as evidenced in the picture below!
Ah well. So much for that grand idea!
The rain! Yuck!
Post run-recovery! :0)
I decided I was hungry for oats. I found this awesome recipe for baked oats from Angela’s blog (www.ohsheglows.com). SO yummy!!! I broke the recipe in half and had enough leftovers for breakfast this morning! Yay!
Oh yes, and something I was crazy insanely excited about in Canada…….
They carry CADBURY chocolate! HELLO!!! I’m in love with Cadbury eggs at Easter, but I can’t get the “real” deal here! I bought these when I was in Canada but haven’t eaten them yet because I can’t taste my food very well at the moment (from being sick)! I want to savor every single yummy bite of these bad boys!!!
In the mean time, I'm going to enjoy being dry and continuing in my recovery! Hopefully I'll be as good as new in no time! :0)
Tonight, I’m going to celebrate a late-birthday with my parents and my brother/sister in law! I know I know…we celebrate birthdays A LOT…but that’s ok with me! :0) Also, Thursday night, my husband’s mom is doing a little dinner for my birthday! Even though it’s not my birthday or even my birthday month any more, I still get to celebrate! Waaahooo!
The best part….I finally get to delve into my FAVORITE cake! Chocolate with peanut butter icing! Mmmhmmmm!!!! :0)
Bummer that your dry clothes got all wet after you changed!
ReplyDeleteYum I love cadbury those look great! You should have run inside like I did haha. We would have run outside if it wasn't for the crazy wind uprooting trees lol! Glad you are feeling better!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the run. I did a brief 5 miles yesterday and in the last ten minutes there was a steady rain falling. It felt so good! Sorry to hear you were sick, what a bummer! But like you said, at least you had most of the cruise underway. Happy Belated Birthday!
ReplyDeleteHappy Belated Birthday!
ReplyDeleteI give you SO MUCH credit for running in the rain. I did it once and I was miserable the entire time. You're a tough cookie!
Do you know in England they sell creme eggs year round? It. was. heaven!
