Game Plan!

Several of you have asked about my game plan for my upcoming races. In just a few short weeks, I’m running the Disney World Princess Half Marathon with Heather and her mom followed by the Rock and Roll New Orleans Full Marathon with DetermiNation on an injured knee.

Whoops….try again. This is what happens when our husbands get a hold of cameras. Seriously, I’m not lying. I have a million pictures of the two of us like this – in Disney World, at Heather’s house, etc. Crazy husbands.

Better!  YAY!

Ok back to the game plan….

So, I didn’t run 21 miles last weekend. Am I worried? Not really. I know that I have a really good base down, and I’m not actually trying to run the Full for a time. Originally, I wanted a time of under 5 hours – that was my Houston goal. I know I would have reached that goal if I hadn’t been injured because my running friend did (we are the same pace). Yet another disappointment but oh well what can you do?

Here I am, back at square one.  My goal for New Orleans? Finish the race.  I’m going to take it easy for a while and see how my knee does. If I’m ok to keep running I will, but if I need to walk a lot, then I’ll do that too. Who knows what will happen – I am DetermiNed to cross that finish line!

My last REALLY long run was on December 3. I ran 18 miles that day. Rock and Roll New Orleans is on March 4th. December 3 – March 4 – that’s three months and a really long time since my last really long run.  Again, I’m not really worried because my goal is to finish and I know I have a good base down.

I’m seeing Physical Therapy two days a week and running on my own three days a week. Saturdays runs are still “long runs”. I’m going to attempt 10 miles this Saturday so we’ll see how it goes!

In other running related news, I ran THREE point ONE miles outside yesterday without really stopping and with very very very minimal knee pain - it was more of a bother than a pain if that makes sense! I can definitely tell how much stronger my hips and upper quads are. I am so grateful that I had a good outside run. I haven’t had a decent outside run since the stupid Swamp Stink back on December 13.  The run was slow – but I ran the whole time!! Yay!

Have I mentioned how much I LOVE really early mornings? I’m sitting at my breakfast table, blogging while eating breakfast and watching the sun rise! I feel so blessed!! :D

Have a wonderful day!
