Cardiologist

Thanks for all the concern over my Post Race Scare!

I made an appointment to see a Cardiologist this week. He ordered several labs, a chest xray, and a 12 lead EKG.

I was super impressed by the amazing new check-in process at the Dr.’s office!

I hate paper gowns. Yuck.

After a long wait, I finally saw a Cardiologist. I was very impressed (and a little worried) that the Cardiologist himself was going to see me, not his Nurse Practitioner. However, I had nothing to worry about!

He sat and talked with me for a while, reviewed all of my symptoms, & diagnosed me as having:

Paroxysmal Supraventricular Tachycardia.

The electrical impulses in my heart sometimes don’t connect and that’s when my heart jumps into a super fast rhythm. He said there’s nothing that can be done about it – it happens and it’s fairly common. He instructed me to continue holding my breath and bearing down until it returns to normal. Another suggestion he gave - put ice water on my face, neck, and hands.

Hopefully, I won’t have to deal with this again for such a prolonged length of time. When it happens again, if I’m near a hospital at all, he wants me to try to get an EKG just to get a better idea of my heart rhythm at that time. The pattern is so unpredictable, I don’t even know if that would be possible but we will see what happens!

So yes, I’m alright – nothing major is wrong with me, SVT is fairly common and happens to lots of people. I just need to make sure I’m well hydrated before a race and I need to take it easy on bad race days. :0)

Thanks again for all of the concern! You guys make me smile!!

Have a fabulous weekend!! I have several exciting Disney related events coming up this weekend – I can’t wait to tell you all about them! :D

  1. So glad to hear you checked out well. I actually know someone else that has SVT, and it is weird how it comes and goes... Hopefully yours won't be common, like you said.

Are you running the Houston Marathon this year? I know you have in the past.
