Running for Boston

I don’t feel as if I can say much more than has already been said – so many people have reached out and are finding the light during this dark time. I’m still having a hard time wrapping my mind around it all – innocent children were injured and killed. Mind boggling.

Yesterday, I wore my Disney World Marathon shirt under my scrubs to work.

I also ran 4.09 miles yesterday afternoon in remembrance of the Boston tragedy. It was a somber quiet, peaceful run and I spent time reflecting on many aspects of life. I took time to pray for those who are suffering and those families who lost loved ones. I also thought about this violent act and the reasons behind it – and still I am left without answers. Instead of becoming angry, I focused my thoughts on the positive – those Americans who ran to help the injured, not even pausing to think twice before springing into action. The military, law enforcement, fireman, security, and everyday citizens – shining beacons in time of tragedy, embodying the TRUE American spirit.

  1. I love how all of us runners are uniting together! And I love how the true American spirit always prevails in times of tragedy. I also ran a silent and prayerful 4.09 miles yesterday in honor of Boston.

  2. I am with you and have to focus on the positive. I have to think about all the people across the country coming together rather than the person who attempted to tear us apart. I have to focus on all the good coming out of this and the ways in which the community/nation/running community will be stronger.

  4. What a horrible tragic event, but seeing everyone wearing their race shirts to work and going out running makes me realize how amazing this running community is - we will pray for Boston, but we won't stop running!

  7. I didn't run as I'm not a runner. I've been so inspired by everyone coming together. I've started my 26. Acts though.

  8. I only recently started running to i ran as much as i could and it was a solid 4 miles. i also wore red because i do not own an athletic shirt. I chose to dedicate my toughest run to the fallen in these harmful acts, and those struggling now.I feel these times have become very dangerous and many things have happened recently. Boston, Ricin in letters, the Texas fertilizer plant explosion. I cannot help but to be joyful that those explosives were not as dangerous as they could have been.

  9. The running community is so supportive and encouraging. Watching the unity that occurred has been truly amazing! The best part is - it was this way before Boston and will continue to be afterward!
