Friday night, our local chapter of the American Cancer Society held its very first Gleaux Run. Most races in the area only bring out around 300-400 runners, so imagine our surprise when over 800 pre-registered! In total, we had over 1,000 runners on race day…I mean night. It was insane!!
Kelli and I found each other and “got our Gleaux on”…
Getting darker…
We enjoyed “Gleauxing” up the night!
Our “Gleaux” wands had had magic powers!
To see all of the fun we had at the Gleaux Run, check out my vlog below. You know you want to…it’s only 3 minutes! How did I pack so much fun into such a short video? You’ll have to watch and see! :0)
Unfortunately, this route was a tad bit longer than the advertised 5K. I pushed hard and gave it my all and by the time I reached the 5K point, I was WORN smack out. I did not PR in this 5K, but I definitely ran better than I expected to!
After I stopped my watch, I started the Run Keeper app on my phone because I wanted to see how long the course really was. In the end it totaled around 3.6-3.7 miles. Thank goodness this was a non-timed fun run for a good cause! :0)
We could not have asked for better weather, either – especially for August! Despite the high humidity (84%…which was low for us lately), the temps were in the 70’s and a cool breeze was in the air.
Guess what? I volunteered as chair for the 2014 Gleaux Run and I recruited Kelli as a committee member! Yay! We are looking forward to an even better event next year and can’t wait to begin planning! Until then, keep “gleauxing up the night”!
Have you participated in a night-time race in the past? If so, which race did you run?
fun! I ran wine and dine twice and I think that was my only night race!
ReplyDeleteMine too! Whoops...I wasn't awake early enough to post the You Tube link! It's there now.
DeleteGreat Vlog! You and Kelli looked like you had so much fun at the Gleaux Run and such a great cause :) was that an 8.43 pace? you did GREAT!!
ReplyDeleteThanks! We had a lot of fun!! :0) Yes, but I can only hold that pace for a little while (ie, not a half marathon)! Haha! Thank you!
DeleteI have a really tough time running in the afternoons, much less at night! It looks like a lot of fun though!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Desiree...it was a lot of fun!! :0) I hear you - I don't like running in the afternoons, either.
DeleteWhat a big run!!! How exciting that you get to chair it! You will be awesome at that!
ReplyDeleteI am signed up to run the wine and dine - that will be my first evening run.
Thank you so much, Sarah! I'm excited about next year's event! Yay you're going to love Wine & Dine!! :0)
Delete"Gleaux"- LOVE IT!
ReplyDeleteI really want to do one of these night races, but my schedule hasn't lined up yet. Tower of Terror 10Miler has been my only night race so far.
Congrats on getting on the committee! You'll rock!
Would love to run ToT one day! Thank you!! :0)
DeleteNice job on your recap,Karen. You and Kelly looked so cute and clearly had a fabulous time! The only night race I have done was Wine and Dine half in 2012 and I will be doing that one again a few months! :)
ReplyDeleteAww thanks! Yay for Wine and Dine!! :0)
DeleteSounds like fun..I wish more night races were offered...and not just at the 5k distance!
ReplyDeleteThanks, it really was a lot of fun and I agree with you about the distance, especially in the summer!!
