I have an 8 mile run scheduled with the running group on Saturday – this week will be my final “back to back” in training for Dumbo! Getting closer and closer to taper mode!
My weekly “Fitness Friday” schedules may not seem like a lot, but there’s a good reason…I only run a few days each week for one main reason: I have IT Band issues. Through overcoming an injury in one knee, to dealing with a flare-up on the opposite knee, I’ve discovered that running more than 4 days a week makes my IT Band angry (then I can’t run at all). :0( Sad times.
I do keep on top of my squats, lunges, and foam rolling routine, even when I’m not running. Also, I don’t sit still, ever. Pretty much the only time I’m not moving during the day is when I’m blogging. In the world of running, I’ve come to discover, what works for some doesn’t work for all. If running 4 days what keeps me going (as opposed to being injured) then I’ll take it. When you find what works for you, run with it (literally)! Running 4 days per week = Happy IT Band = Happy Karen! :0)
Madalynn joined me for a 1 mile run on Monday night after the sun went down. It was still way hot and humid for her and just 1 mile wore her out. She loves to run with me, I can’t wait for cooler temps so she can join me more often!
Last week, I registered as a “Legacy” runner for Rock N Roll New Orleans! I ran the very first Rock N Roll NOLA Half back in 2010 as my 2nd Half Marathon and had a BLAST! I’ve returned every year since, sometimes to run the Full, sometimes to run the Half. If you’re interested, you can see my race recaps here:
- 2010 Inaugural Rock N Roll Mardi Gras! (Now Rock N Roll New Orleans.)
- 2011 Rock N Roll Mardi Gras Half Marathon
- 2012 Rock and Roll New Orleans Full Marathon
- 2013 Rock n Roll NOLA Full Marathon
I’m registered for the RnR NOLA Half Marathon for 2014. If you’ve ever considered running this race, now’s the time! Come join me for 13.1 (or 26.2) miles of fun!
Have a great weekend! :0)
I UNDERSTAND! I can only do 4 days a week due to my feet issues and found the same thing ( and said lol) a month or so ago. 4 days a week leaves me happy and I keep going so 4 it is :) yay Dumbo! Can't wait for your recap!
ReplyDeleteGlad I'm not alone! Sometimes I look at my schedule and think...gee, I hardly ran this week at all! Glad you found what works for you as well! :0)
DeleteMy IT band flared up again this past weekend, but I think I over did things when I didn't do anything last week due to traveling for work.
ReplyDeleteThe NOLA race looks like so much fun. Maybe I'll sign up for 2015.
Oh no! Hope you are able to make it happy again! Darn IT Band! Yes, the race is a ton of fun...my 2nd favorite to disney! :0)
DeleteI have realized I can only run 3-4 times a week, too. lately it has been more like 3 lol! See you soon!
ReplyDeleteI hear you! It's been a mess for sure! Yay see you soon!
DeleteI only run 3-4 times a week...or I'm prone to injury too. I think what you said is correct...you have to find what works best for your body. I'm running New Orleans again so I'll see ya there! :-)
ReplyDeleteYes, definitely!! YAY!! We must schedule a meet up again! That was fun! :0)
Delete4 days a week is all I can get, so kudos to those who can do more! Glad you know you're limits. So excited for February!
ReplyDeleteGlad I'm not the only one! :0) YAY! We must schedule a meet up somewhere!
DeleteI'm glad to see you address running fewer times per week - last season I ended up dropping down to just three runs/week because my ankle was really hurting me. I felt guilty, but it was the right thing to do for me. I am amazed at the runners who can pound out 5 or 6 days of running and not get injured.
ReplyDeleteI'm amazed as well by those who run so many times during the week and never get injured! Glad I'm not alone! :0)
DeleteAwesome week! I can't believe DL is coming up so soon!
ReplyDeleteMe either!! Aahhh! I hope to see you there!
DeleteEver since I read the book, Run Less, Run Faster, I have only run 3 days a week unless I am in the middle of Goofy Training and then some weeks are 4. It makes more sense and is much easier on the body!
ReplyDeleteI might have to look into that book! Thank you!! :0)
DeleteYea, I'm finding that 3 times a week is good for me. I don't want to overdo it and I try to space it out where I don't have to run on days back to back.
ReplyDeleteThat's good too...I've noticed that more than two days in a row of running is bad for me!
DeleteI only run 3-4 times per week, too. :) Anything more and my knees give me trouble. Awesome that Disneyland made it on the board, even if it is squished in there. :)
ReplyDeleteHaha poor Disneyland! We were left out so we had to get our first race of the season added in!
DeleteI love that you said it's ok to only run a few days a week if that's what works for you. I'm the same way, sometimes I feel like less of a runner b/c I cant go every day but then I think, hey it's better to run a few days pain-free then every day full of pain.
ReplyDeleteI've felt that way in the past as well, but I agree with you - it's so true, I'd rather run a few days pain free than the alternative! :0)
DeleteThat's awesome to be a legacy runner!!! Good work!
ReplyDeleteI love running with my sweet puppy!!!
Thanks so much, Sarah! :0)
DeleteHow cool to be a legacy runner!! That race is on my list of races - one of these days I'll make it down there.
ReplyDeleteYou definitely should! :0) It's such a fun race!!
