My recent trip to Baton Rouge was a series of one strange event after another.
I travelled to Baton Rouge with my friends for a weekend getaway combined with a race. The entire weekend was cold and rainy but we didn’t let the weather damper our fun!
While shopping at the mall, we enjoyed a few treats of the season. This cookie was extra delicious because he’s shaped like a snowman and it’s Christmas time.
Speaking of the Mall, we saw quite a few crazy characters.
-For starters, I made eye contact with a lady walking with a walker. She smiled at me, then continued toward the escalator. Not 10 seconds later, I heard screaming and shouting behind me. Apparently she lost her balance and was hanging onto the black escalator handrail for dear life. People were yelling, arms were flying, associates were running…it was quite a sight. Thankfully, they were able to stop the escalator and a physician was in the house. By the end of it all, the lady walked out of the store, scratch free. Whew.
-While checking out with my purchase, my friends sort-of saw a woman shoplift. She came into the store wearing tall boots, short shorts, and a very large oversized jacket – she also had a guy with her. When she passed by my friends again, they realized the lady had tags hanging out the back of her jacket (as if she put something on, then threw the jacket on top). The pair walked out of the store like nothing just happened. My friends told the nearest associate but I'm not sure what they were able to do about it. The whole situation makes me sad because I know it happens all the time. What’s wrong with America? What happened to our conscious…you know, that little “voice” that tells us right from wrong? So very sad.
-We had dinner before the race at Copeland’s Cheesecake Bistro. After dinner, we each ordered a slice of cheesecake – mine was drizzled drenched in Bananas Foster sauce. Next time, I think I would ask for the sauce on the side. It was overpoweringly sweet and I couldn’t taste the cheesecake well. However, it was still all very good (y’all know I love me some bananas foster sauce)!
-After the race, we checked out of our hotel and retrieved our car from Valet. Our destination was Olive Garden across town for lunch. On our way there, we heard a very loud pinging sound from somewhere near my seat. It happened twice and I thought it was a seat alarm. I turned the seat warmer off and the noise stopped. We sat down in Olive Garden and after ordering our food, a young man walked up and asked if we just checked out of the Hilton. Completely freaked out, we didn't know how to respond. We recognized him from Valet…strange, right? Apparently his iPhone slipped out of his pocket and landed in between my seat and the console. He was able to track us from the hotel to Olive Garden (across town) though another iPhone! I think it’s cool he was able to retrieve his phone, but it still freaked me out, none-the-less.
-While cleaning out my new crossbody purse at home, I came across a set of keys that definitely are NOT mine. Uhhhh….??? They were tucked deep into the very front pocket and did not have a valet tag (I didn’t use that pocket during the weekend). I called the hotel and am waiting on a manager to return my phone call – either these keys belong to someone in Valet (how they got in my purse, I’ll never know) or someone left them inside the purse in the mall before I made my purchase.
Crazy weekend, right?! What’s the craziest thing that’s ever happened to you while travelling?
Girl you had some crazy things happen this weekend!!!
ReplyDeleteRight?!
DeleteOMG, those are some crazy things. This didn't happen to me, but my mom said she saw a lady at Atlantic City who got her leg caught in a moving escalator (i'm not sure I can visualize how this happened but apparently it was quite bad) The lady was obviously quite drunk and was with a group of girls for a bachelorete weekend. Please let is know what happens with that set of keys you found in your purse. That is SO odd!
ReplyDeleteOh goodness that sounds awful!! I will let y'all know what happens with the keys. So crazy!
DeleteI do not have any crazy travel stories, but when I worked retail in college there was NOTHING I could do as an associate for stealers. And holy crap they were everywhere and stole so much. I helped the mall cops catch one that frequented ( aka robbed the place blind) and I was like FINALLY! It killed me because most were under 18, would steal hundreds at a time, seemed to be doing it for fun. My favorite though is when a group freaked out on me for following them around.. then got caught with over 3,000 worth of stuff from all over the mall. It makes me so sad.
ReplyDeleteThat is SO insane! My friends mom used to work at TJ Max and one woman walked out of the store with a buggy full of items. When another customer said something to her about shoplifting, she said "I know" and kept on walking. It's so sad to hear stories like this.
Delete"I know" ?? That is TERRIBLE. It is so sad.
DeleteVery weird. But that Banana's Foster soaked cheesecake sure looked like it made things go down easier. Yum.
ReplyDeleteHah it sure did! Super yum!!
DeleteWow, you really did have some crazy things happen! I think the keys is the weirdest of all.
ReplyDeleteI agree!! Haha!
DeleteThat sure was a crazy weekend. I think the keys story is the most bizarre.
ReplyDeleteIsn't it? I agree!
DeleteHA- I worked at Copeland's Cheesecake Bistro for 3 years in grad school! Next time you go- I suggest the carrot cake. Also, the most popular cheesecake flavor (at least when I was there) was White Chocolate Raspberry- not as sweet as BF :)
ReplyDeleteThat's so funny! The white choc rasp sounds delicious, too...will be on my list for next time! :0)
DeleteFinding someone else's keys in your purse is so odd. I don't even know what I'd do with them once I found them!
ReplyDeleteI still don't know what to do. The hotel is clueless!
