Yes you read that right…ANOTHER Louisiana snow day in less than a week! What is happening here?
In the past, we’ve gone years between bouts of sleet or snow and so far this year, we’ve had two (today makes three) days off work because of icy conditions!
Apparently, the thought of a few snow days causes panic in the hearts and minds of southerners. In turn, this causes a mad rush to the local grocery stores to purchase all the bread and milk available. Seriously, you would have thought a hurricane was coming with the way the parking lots were on Monday afternoon on my way home from work. I chose to refrain from partaking in the madness.
Our local news station posted the above photo of a nearby Albertson’s. Yes, we are insane I know.
…and now I give you, the SneauxPocalypse of 2014!
In my area, that’s it. We received about 9 hours of sleet and no snow. Again, I didn’t get to build a snowman. Sad times.
The freezing temperatures did cause closures of many roadways and bridges – they didn’t want a repeat of Friday…
Scary roadways = scary drivers!
To pass the time yesterday, I washed clothes and caught up on magazine reads.
I’ve been slacking since September…whoops.
Speaking of whoops, I made a few yesterday -
My Breadman, oh how I loathe thee. The aromas of freshly baked bread filled the air and caused me to eat irrational things. Never. Again.
The final whoops of the day…
I bit the bullet and registered for the Royal Family 5K during Disney’s Princess Half Marathon Weekend! I figured I would be out at the race site anyway to cheer on my husband and my parents so why not? Can’t wait for a fun-filled weekend of running!
These past few days have shown me that I’m way to ADD to stay at home with nothing to do. (Working from home or having kids at home would be a different story since I would actually have something to do.) I’m so glad I have things to keep me busy throughout the day on a regular basis! I have a feeling by the end of tomorrow, I’ll be caught up on my scrapbooking and several closets will be organized! :0)
What do you do on snow days? If you live in the south, have you ever had a “snow” day?
That photo is hilarious! I live in a region where snow is common and i've never seen our store shelved like that! I love how snow days are an excuse to just stay home and do nothing at all and not feel guilty about it!
ReplyDeleteI am loving it, too! :0) Really enjoying my days off work!
DeleteWe've had a couple stretches of ice days in Dallas since I moved here. The first was 4 days in the week leading up to Super Bowl 2011, and the second was 4 days this past December (two of those were the weekend). I stay home because, even though I can drive in this weather, many can't.
ReplyDeleteI'm with you...if I don't have to get out, I'm staying at home because people don't know how to drive in this stuff (myself included)!
DeleteI am the exact same way - I get serious cabin fever if I am at home too long. We didn't get a ton of ice (in my area at least) here in Houston yesterday, but a lot of schools and work places were cancelled 'just in case.' I work about 5 min from home, so still went in, but my husband's work was cancelled. I have to say, it was nice coming home to a super clean house - guess he gets cabin fever too LOL
ReplyDeleteThat is awesome you signed up for the 5K too - the medal for this year looks super cute!
That's good, I'm glad places in your area decided to be proactive and close ahead of time - hearing these crazy reports in Georgia of kids having to spend the night at school is crazy! I feel so bad for them and hope everyone is safe!
DeleteLove the 5K medal! Can't wait!
This snow day is crazy! Everything here in Alabama is closed! We are under a state of emergency. The whole area is one big slab of ice! Let me just say that Netflix has been my friend lol!
ReplyDeleteYes, us too! Everything is iced over. I watched a few movies yesterday, looks like that will happen again today! Stay warm, Mindy!
DeleteWas just a regular workday for me, bummer about working form home, you work no matter what!
ReplyDeleteHooray for 5k!
Yeah I thought of you yesterday when I wrote that! That would be a downside of working from home! :0/
DeleteI'm in a region of NC that only gets about one teensy dusting a year... and it came yesterday! Our store shelves are probably looking an awful lot like that as well. Everyone's got to be stocked up on their bread and milk! :P
ReplyDeleteEven though we accumulated less than an inch my university cancelled all classes for the day, so I'll be spending my day curled up in bed with Netflix and coffee!
Hah glad we aren't the only ones! People get crazy!! Hope you enjoy your snow day! :D
DeleteI thought the ransack of the grocery store that only happened in VA with the thought of snow. We got about 3" here this week and the schools will probably be closed for the rest of the week. They closed the schools last week on Tuesday and it didn't even start snowing till 5PM that day. Unfortunately they didn't close my work, but fortunately I have the option of working from home as to not deal with the roads. Hope the cabin fever ends soon!
ReplyDelete@heatherlas
Glad you have the option of working from home! That's a huge plus!!
DeleteThis is the first snow day we have had here in years and the worst I remember it being in the 10 years I have lived here. All ice, no snow yet though.
ReplyDeleteSame here! Stay warm!!
DeleteSo you registered for the 5K! I have been tempted, but I want to run the 10K for time and think that would be too much.....they need to get to 100% so I can stop thinking about it! Enjoy the snow/ice....this winter seems to bve crazy in the south. We have lots of ice in NC!
ReplyDeleteYes! Aaah what am I thinking?! Haha Thanks so much...hope y'all are staying warm!! :D
DeleteThe handful of snow days I remember from childhood are vastly different than the ones I experience now. I still think the southern ones are worse- bc everyone loses their minds over it.
ReplyDeleteYou're right, everyone does lose their minds! It's craziness!
DeleteI was born and raised in Ohio so when I heard about this "snow" coming to NC I wasn't too worried. People also cleared the shelves here, we only got about a inch of snow/ice. So unnecessary haha! The Princess Half was both my first Disney race and my first half marathon!! I wish I was doing the Glass Slipper challenge in a few weeks, have fun!!
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear stories of this from others! :0) The Princess Half is my favorite Disney race...love the atmosphere and the excitement in the air!
DeleteThat my friend...is NOT snow....I'll show you snow....I've got like 6 feet of it in my yard...summer can arrive anytime now
ReplyDeleteHAHA I know what you mean!!! Send some my way! I was so disappointed we didn't get "real" snow!
DeleteI laughed out loud at your picture of the supermarket - that's completely crazy! We haven't had as many snow days as we've had "cold weather days". Schools in MN were closed yet again on Monday and Tuesday due to the -45 wind chill...yuck!
ReplyDeleteCrazy, you are right!! Oh my gosh -45...I wouldn't go outside!! More power to you guys!
DeleteY'all are so weird! This morning my drive to work was like an ice skating rink. I seriously thought I might die. Completely glare ice, wind blowing my car all over the road, we were one of five schools in our county to be open! Ugh!! That dusting of snow is beautiful and I would take it in a heartbeat! We are suppose to get another six inches tomorrow. Can I come live with you?
ReplyDeleteYou can, as long as that means we don't have to trade, cause I couldn't take what you're describing!! I have the utmost respect for you guys!!
DeleteWe should have a virtual scrapbooking party !! I put all my race photos in an album too!!
