In the spirit of the season (and this crazy cold spell going on throughout the US), I decided to combine a few Winter tags to create one all about Winter running.
Winter time in Southwest Louisiana doesn’t hold a candle to Winters where a lot of you guys live. Yes, 40 degrees is FREEZING to me, so I’m curious to see your answers when it comes to running during the super cold months!
--------------------------------------------------------------------
What is your favorite thing about Winter?
Christmas, hands down. After Christmas is over, Winter time is for the birds. Bring on Spring!
I do love long runs in the Winter time – down here, we aren’t able to train for Marathons during the Summer because it’s way too hot, so Winter is optimal Marathon training season!
What is your least favorite thing about Winter?
Treadmill running…boo.
What is your favorite piece of Winter running gear?
My tights – I don’t remember the brand because I’ve had them for so long, but they provide just enough warmth for cold morning runs.
Layering is also important – I like to start my run by being overdressed rather than underdressed.
Another favorite is “hot hands” – these help keep my hands nice and warm! Nothing is worse than cold hands or feet!
What is your favorite way to fuel for long runs in the Winter time?
Luna Chocolate Peppermint Stick bar and a banana
Favorite Winter drink?
Peppermint tea – the first thing I do when I wake up on Saturday morning in the Winter time is brew a cup of peppermint tea.
Where do you prefer to run in the Winter? Indoors? Outdoors? Track? Treadmill?
Outdoors, only when it’s above freezing…which is pretty much all the time (except the past two days)
What is the current temperature where you are right now?
27 degrees, feels like 20 degrees – this is crazy cold for us!
What are the first three things that remind you of Winter?
-Changing of the leaves
-Cooler temps
-Christmas decorations
What has been your favorite Winter run so far this year?
Saturday’s 21 miler – I had a good run and felt accomplished once I was finished. That run definitely helped build my confidence for Rock n Roll New Orleans!
What race/races are you currently training for this Winter season?
-Rock n Roll New Orleans Full
-Disney World’s Glass Slipper Challenge – Princess 10K on Saturday followed by the Princess Half Marathon on Sunday
I tag YOU! Answer these questions in a blog post or pick a few to answer in the comments below – I want to know what Winter running is like for you!
Any Winter running secrets to share?
Well my winter running is about the same as yours since we live so close! I definitely prefer running in the cold (not cold like the last few days though).
ReplyDeleteSo true! :0) Hope you are having so much fun in Disney!!
DeleteI just discovered the Chocolate peppermint stick luna bar and am in love!
ReplyDeleteIt really doesn't start feeling "winter like" here till Christmas time and then after that we always look forward to our Disney trip in Feb. That's a good time to go to beat the winter blues!
I agree...after Christmas, it's nice to have something to look forward to! :0)
DeleteI am already annoyed with treadmills - today here the actual temp is -25 with the windchill still down around -50 or so - blah. I am ready for spring and to log the miles outside.
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness, I wouldn't step outside! Hah! Hope you had a great week, Sarah!
DeleteI loved this post so much that I'm joining in with the game of tag! Tomorrow's post is going to answer these questions if you want to check it out! I love winter, I have no idea how people in Louisiana survive the summer months. You guys are brave :)
ReplyDeleteAwesome! Going to look for that now. Hope you're having a great week, Kristen!
DeleteI hate that it gets dark so early, more treadmill runs stink. That is my least favorite.
ReplyDeleteOoh I didn't even think of that...the time change, you're right! It's dark when I leave for work and if I don't get off work in time, it's also dark when I get back. Yuck.
DeleteI don't mid running in the cold but for the last few days, the treadmill became my best friend. We're up to 20F right now :) Can't wait to run in the weekend where it's going to 40F! Yay! Perfect running weather for me. :)
ReplyDeleteI agree, the 40's and 50's are perfect running weather! Hope you have a great weekend! :0)
DeleteI'm gonna do this tag/ post. Great idea . I run in the crap of snow and ice till it seems like April. It's just how it is in the mitten. I dread spending 20 mins to get ready and get my gear on.
ReplyDeleteWow that does sound crazy! Hope Spring comes soon, sending warm thoughts your way!! :0)
