I am not going to lie – this marathon kicked my butt. Yes, I enjoyed running with Nicole and yes, I enjoyed my 5th Rock N Roll New Orleans experience – however, the roads were slick the entire race and the weather was awful – hot and humid. My legs were achy by mile 15 and I didn’t feel as if I was able to give this race my 100%.
I spent most of Monday and Tuesday hobbling around at work. I’ve never felt this sore after a race, not even after running Goofy. Thankfully, my orthopedic massage therapist was able to fit me in on Monday afternoon. I also spent Monday and Tuesday evening taking Epsom salt baths.
Compression tights and ice was also a definite must this week.
By Wednesday, I was finally able to walk a bit more normal so Pixie and I went on a 2 mile walk around the neighborhood.
I have a wedding this weekend that I’m helping to coordinate, so my running will be very minimal until next week (and I’m ok with that). As soon as the wedding is over, I’m crawling into bed and not moving until my body tells me it’s ready to wake up. I haven’t had a chance to catch up on my rest after the Marathon and I definitely don’t want to get sick.
I hope you all have an awesome weekend! Keep watching for my Rock N Roll New Orleans Marathon recap, coming up early next week!
In the meantime, I leave you with….
….Marathon food! Is your mouth watering yet? :D
What kind of foods do you like to fuel with before/after a hard race?
Ahhh beignets?! So jealous!
ReplyDeleteYes! They were delicious too!
DeleteMmmm marathon food!! I can't wait to eat my celebratory meal after my full lol :0) I'm thinking pizza and a cinnabon cinnamon roll!
ReplyDeleteHope you get a chance to catch up on your zzz's this weekend!!
That sounds perfect, Lauren!! Enjoy!
DeleteI always eat pasta and lean protein prior to racing. the fruits and vegetables are ignored for a few days ahead of time as well! Enjoy the wedding and hopefully some rest time! See you soon!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Pam!! Can't wait!
DeleteI believe this is the first time I have been introduced to Pixie! Adorable! I haven't discovered what my favorite pre/post race foods are yet!
ReplyDeleteAww she's my spoiled diva brat! Haha! Gotta love em! :0)
DeleteGirl that humidity, fog, and heat was awful! It made it a very tough race for sure. And poor Sarah (whose from New York) had a really tough time in those conditions during the race!
ReplyDeleteYes I agree completely. Ugh. Poor Sarah!!
DeleteOK, the food is why a New Orleans race is on my bucket list. What better way to celebrate a race than with beignets?
ReplyDeleteAgreed!! :D
Deletepizza! Yum! Rest is good you are doing the right thing! I have run a total of 5 miles since tink!
ReplyDeleteGood, that makes me feel better!! :0) See you soon!
DeleteAh, too bad you were sore. Good luck on your runDisney race!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Holly!!
DeleteI already miss the food. sigh.
ReplyDeleteTake care of yourself and congrats on the marathon!!
Thanks, Abby! Congrats to you as well!
DeleteI wanted all the food. It was very hard to stay GF in the NoLa bars and restaurants.
ReplyDeleteI bet that was hard!!
DeletePre-race is always pasta...post race is pizza...we are creature of habit
ReplyDeleteI like it! Definitely nothing wrong with that!! :D
DeleteI am just now starting to feel normal again appetite wise and fatigue. Even my husband asked me what was wrong with me because it was only 4 miles more than training.I honestly dont know but that race took a LOT out of me. PLUS I think I was trying to push it too fast with my recovery. I need to slow down a bit. Paying the price for it now with my cranky IT Band. :(
ReplyDeleteUgh bummer! I hope your knee gets back to normal soon!!
