Despite recent rains, Saturday morning dawned clear & bright. Did I mention recent rains? Oh…yeah. Then there’s that – humidity.
I was on my own for Saturday’s run and decided to go for 10 miles.
The sunrise was gorgeous, but the air was sticky, thick, and incredibly humid. It was “one of those” runs we usually experience mid to late summer – you know, the kind where you’re drenched within a mile and can hardly breathe? Yeah, that kind.
I tried to make the best of my run by finding items on the summer run hunt scavenger list. I found a few…and one I searched for forever – a house with a #12 on it! I finally found it and I appreciated the distraction. Thanks, guys. :0)
Despite running slower than I wanted, I still came out below a 10 min/mile pace. I also didn’t allow myself to walk any portion of the course, just breaks at water stations. THAT was tough, especially during the final 2 miles.
After the run, my calves decided to cramp – that’s something that’s never happened to me in the past. Luckily, my coach had a bag of salt packets ready and waiting. Within minutes, I felt 100 x better…although the salt made me want to gag. Yuck.
After I returned home, I had an egg white omelet with spinach, turkey bacon, and a thin slice of cheese. I also had a slice of Whole Foods Seeduction bread (a weakness of mine) and a homemade light almond flavored iced Macchiato.
Then, I took a 3 hour nap. Whew. What a day!
Did you run this weekend? How’s the weather in your area? Is it summer yet?
Way to get your long run done Karen. It is so much easier with a running buddy and I know you missed yours during your 10 miler! It is getting very hot here in NC, but we had a break the last few days which has been nice.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Pam! She was missed for sure! Glad you've gotten a break from the heat! :0)
DeleteThanks for playing along with he scavenger hunt.
ReplyDeleteThose salt packets, did you add the salt to something or just eat it right out of the packet? Just curious how that works. -M
Thanks for hosting! It was fun to participate and helped take my mind off long runs! :0)
DeleteI dumped the packet in my mouth and downed water right after. It's gross but it sure helped! :0)
Yup. It's summer. I realized near the end of my ten miles that it's time to start weekend long runs at 7am instead of 8am.
ReplyDeleteExactly! Ugh...yuck.
DeleteSummer's definitely coming. It's warming up and we also have humidity. When I turn my car on at the end of the day, the gage reads high 90s in the sun and I know it'll get hotter in a month.
ReplyDeleteYuck - that's miserable! Unfortunately, it's the same here so I know exactly how you feel!
DeleteIt's already super humid here too. This rain isn't helping! I ran on Saturday too but only 6 miles. It was definitely hard to breathe!
ReplyDeleteSo much rain lately! Just makes the humidity even worse!
DeleteSounds like an awesome day to me! We've had a ton of rain here too so I totally understand how thick the humidity has been. Great job on that run! That would be tough to get through!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Lauren!
DeleteIt's super humid here too. We r going to get a nasty storm here soon!!
ReplyDeleteHope the weather cleared up for you guys!
DeleteUg this rain has been making it ssooo humid. I ran two miles today (haha) and couldn't breathe well. Glad I will be super pregnant for the worst of the summer and have an excuse :)
ReplyDeleteAgreed, that's a good excuse!! :D
DeleteIt is getting CRAZY humid.
ReplyDeleteYes, crazy!!
DeleteGreat job! I hated winter, but coming into this hot and muggy part of the year isn't fun either :/
ReplyDeleteSame here - I prefer cool Fall/Spring temps! :0)
