This past weekend, I ran the Diva’s Half Marathon with my sister-in-law and a couple of her friends. We had a great weekend despite several mishaps (that seem funny now but didn’t at the time)…I’ll share more about those later!
We initially signed up for The Diva’s Half Marathon (Galveston, Tx) as a way to celebrate Kayla’s birthday weekend with her.
On Saturday, I met up with the girls at Kayla’s home in Texas. The drive to Galveston was not as long as I thought! (Yay!)
We arrived near Galveston (Crystal Beach) in no time, got settled in our “home” for the weekend, then took the ferry into Galveston to pick up our bibs and shirts at the Expo.
This was my first time to visit Galveston and my first time on the Galveston ferry!
The ferry was fun the first few times but I would not want to travel by it every single day. I found out later that there is a bridge into Galveston (on the other side of town). Crystal Beach where we were staying was really close to the ferry.
The Expo was held at the Convention Center which is a part of the San Luis Resort.
It was a cute little Expo and although there weren’t very many vendors, we took our time to look around and explore!
I loved seeing all of the fellow runDisney fans in the room – there really were a lot of them!!
Along with official race shirts came a drawstring bag and a tutu! So much fun!!
We made signs for Kayla’s Birthday and we took a few pictures with our bibs!
The weather on Saturday was so crazy – we hoped it wouldn’t be that way for Sunday because a good portion of the race was spent running down the sea wall!
We ate lunch at Landry’s which was incredibly delicious!
I had the stuffed and broiled shrimp!
After lunch, we explored the sea wall area a little more….
My brother is a goof ball.
It was interesting to see and hear all the stories and newspaper clippings around town about the devastation left behind from Hurricane Ike which made landfall near Galveston in 2008. Memories of what we endured with Hurricane Rita (2005) came flooding back…what a horrible and tragic thing to go through. I am glad that despite it all, Galveston has mostly been put back together again. I can’t wait to return for a visit!!
After exploring for a little while, we drove back to Crystal Beach to enjoy our cabin on the beach! (More on that later!)

I worked at the hotel in your last photo, The Hotel Galvez. I was working there during Ike. The seawall did a lot better than the harbor side of the island for that storm.
