5 Month Baby Update

Hello 5 months! Brayden officially turned 5 months old on Labor Day but we traveled over the weekend, so that's why this update is a week late.

Clothing: 3-6 months and 6 months
Diapers: Size 2
Nicknames: Cowboy, "The Mick" (see 4 month update for an explanation on that one), Bray-Man, Bray-Monster

(We haven't updated height and weight since his 4 month MD appt - he will have another check at 6 months so I'll have updated stats then!)

Likes:
  • Being pushed around in his new umbrella stroller (it's Mickey, of course)
  • The Hot Dog Song...and any song on Mickey Mouse Clubhouse
  • Smiling and laughing
  • His new jumper!
  • Putting things in his mouth - anything and everything he can grab, including hair!
  • Talking and making noise
  • Toys that sing or play music
  • Jesus Loves Me - if this kid is upset or crying in the car, all we have to do is put it on "song #12" aka Jesus Loves Me - he quiets down INSTANTLY.
 Dislikes
  • Super long car rides
  • Sitting still
  • The sun
  • Being hungry or tired
Brayden also had several firsts this month!

First table food - we started with rice cereal and he didn't care for it at first. We waited a few more weeks (he was 4 months 3 weeks) and now he LOVES it!

Brayden began Mother's Day Out on August 23. He attends one day a week and he's doing great...he loves his teacher, too!

Rolling, scooting, and holding onto his feet are the new milestones he reached this past month! You put Brayden down on his mat in one position and he will make a full 360 degree circle on his back before it's all said and done. He is also doing so much better with tummy time and will roll consistently from tummy to back.

First Astros Game! We took him to his first Astros game at the end of the month and we all had a blast!

Teeth. Yes, Brayden now has TWO teeth. Whomp whomp. He took his first tooth like a champ - we didn't even know he was teething until his tooth was here! It became visible the day after the Astros game which shocked me because he did SO well all day! We weren't as lucky with the second tooth when a runny nose, congestion, and crankiness set in. His first tooth made its appearance when Brayden was 4 1/2 months and the second tooth when he was 4 months and 3 weeks. The banana "tooth brush" and teether is amazing - he loves it!

First "swimming pool" experience! He received a few swim outfits as gifts and I wanted to put them to good use. I found a pool and insert I liked and ordered them off Amazon. I also found some swim diapers at Target on clearance. He's "gone swimming" twice now and loves it!

Brayden currently eats between 30 and 34 ounces a day. He's also getting on more of a consistent schedule which I love. He's still sleeping all night although he does have the occasional night where he wakes up (usually around 3:30 or 4:30 a.m.). He cries for just a few minutes and by the time I make it to his room, he's back asleep again. It started around the time of his 4 month sleep regression and he did it every night for about a week and a half. Now it just happens on occasion.

Nap time is good, too - he eats every 3 hours or so and sleeps about 45 minutes to an hour 3 times a day for a total of 3 naps a day. On some days, he sleeps for 2-3 hours during his first nap which then eliminates that last nap of the evening.

We traveled to Dallas over Labor Day Weekend to visit family and Brayden did so well with his time in the car. Our travel time did take a bit longer with additional stops for eating/diaper changes which was to be expected!

We've had so much fun getting to know his sweet personality and we enjoy watching him continue to grow and develop! I say it often, but I truly do wish I could slow down time. Cherishing all the moments I have with him is something that's become incredibly important to me as I know I'll never get these moments back!

Onto month six! It's hard to believe he's almost been with us for half a year! In the meantime, he's completely stolen all our hearts!

Thanks for following along! :)

  5. OMG I haven't heard of Mothers Day Out in forever!!!! I use to go to one when I was a kid and we lived in Texas. I guess they don't have them here on the East coast. I can't believe how he is growing! He looks like such a happy boy!

  6. Oh I hate teething. Totally ruins everything/routines etc. It can be so hard to know one is coming in too when the back ones start. :(
